A visually-impaired woman has taken legal action against a prominent yoga products company, accusing it of failing to make its website accessible to blind and visually-impaired individuals. Constance Henry filed the complaint in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on November 2, 2025, targeting Jade Industries, Inc. The lawsuit highlights significant barriers on the company’s website that prevent visually-impaired users from accessing goods and services available to sighted customers.

The complaint details how Constance Henry, who is legally blind, encountered numerous accessibility issues while attempting to purchase a yoga mat from Jadeyoga.com. These barriers include inaccessible drop-down menus, lack of alternative text for images, and interactive elements that require mouse navigation—hindrances that effectively exclude blind users from completing transactions independently. “Defendant’s denial of full and equal access to its website,” Henry asserts, “is a violation of Plaintiff’s rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).” The ADA mandates that public accommodations be accessible to individuals with disabilities.

Henry’s lawsuit argues that despite readily available technology enabling web accessibility—such as screen readers and keyboard navigation—the defendant has not implemented these solutions on its site. The plaintiff cites established guidelines like the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 as standards that Jade Industries could adopt to rectify these issues. By failing to do so, the company allegedly perpetuates discrimination against visually-impaired consumers by denying them equal participation in online commerce.

In her legal filing, Henry seeks both injunctive relief and compensatory damages. She requests a court order mandating Jade Industries to modify its website policies and practices to ensure compliance with ADA requirements. Additionally, she demands compensation for the emotional distress caused by her inability to complete online purchases due to accessibility barriers. This case emphasizes the broader issue of digital accessibility in an era where online shopping is integral to daily life.

Representing Constance Henry is Alison Chan from Equal Access Law Group, PLLC. The case is being overseen by judges at the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois under Case No.: 1:25-cv-13407.
