Rockford man receives over five years in prison for armed bank robbery

A Rockford resident has been sentenced to more than five years in federal prison for robbing a Chase Bank in Rockford. Bernard Wandick, 33, previously pleaded guilty to the robbery of the Chase Bank located at 3699 N. Main St.

According to court records, Wandick entered the bank on July 17, 2019, wearing a medical mask and carrying a firearm. He pointed the weapon at several employees and demanded money from tellers before fleeing on foot with cash.

U.S. District Judge Iain D. Johnston handed down a 63-month prison sentence during a hearing in federal court in Rockford.

Andrew S. Boutros, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Douglas S. DePodesta, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Field Office of the FBI, announced the sentence. The Rockford Police Department assisted with the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Theodora Anderson and Jessica Maveus represented the government.
