A security company in Illinois is facing serious allegations of discrimination and retaliation. Kamyaiah Keenan, a former employee, filed a complaint against Chicago Security Professionals, LLC in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on February 18, 2026. The lawsuit accuses the company of violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Illinois Human Rights Act by discriminating against her due to her pregnancy.
The complaint outlines that Keenan was employed as a full-time security guard by Chicago Security Professionals starting February 1, 2025. Her duties included providing parking lot security patrols for clients. Despite meeting performance expectations and having no disciplinary issues, Keenan faced reduced working hours after informing her employer about her pregnancy in March and April 2025. The plaintiff alleges that her supervisor, Mr. Kirk, attributed this reduction directly to her pregnancy.
Keenan’s situation worsened when she was placed on involuntary leave on July 27, 2025, with instructions not to return until after childbirth—despite being medically cleared to work. This action did not apply to non-pregnant employees and effectively terminated her employment without consent or legitimate justification. After giving birth on September 9, 2025, Keenan was asked to return immediately but declined due to medical advice. Subsequent attempts to regain employment were ignored by the defendant.
The plaintiff claims significant economic losses from lost wages and benefits due to these actions and has suffered emotional distress while caring for a newborn. The lawsuit seeks various forms of relief including back pay, compensatory damages for emotional distress, punitive damages for willful misconduct, attorneys’ fees, and an injunction against further discriminatory practices.
Representing Keenan are attorneys Taxiarchis Hatzidimitriadis and Ricardo Alvarez from Consumer Law Partners, LLC. The case is identified as Case No. 1:26-cv-1790.
