A visually impaired woman has taken legal action against a major online retailer, accusing the company of failing to make its website accessible to blind and visually impaired individuals. Lisa Anderson filed a class-action complaint in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on February 4, 2026, targeting Very Great Brands LLC. The lawsuit alleges that the company’s website is not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), thus denying equal access to visually impaired users.

Lisa Anderson, who requires screen-reading software to navigate websites due to her visual impairment, claims that Very Great Brands LLC’s website contains significant accessibility barriers. According to Anderson, these barriers prevent her and others like her from independently accessing and purchasing products online. The complaint highlights several issues with the website, including the lack of alternative text for images, inaccessible drop-down menus, and elements that require mouse interaction rather than keyboard navigation. These deficiencies allegedly make it impossible for blind users to complete transactions without assistance.

The complaint further argues that despite readily available technology and established guidelines for web accessibility, such as those outlined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) in their Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), Very Great Brands LLC has failed to implement necessary changes. Anderson contends that this oversight constitutes discrimination under both state and federal law. “Defendant’s denial of full and equal access to its Website…is a violation of Anderson’s rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act,” states the complaint.

Anderson seeks a permanent injunction requiring Very Great Brands LLC to modify its website policies and practices to ensure compliance with ADA standards. Additionally, she is pursuing compensatory damages for herself and other class members who have faced similar discrimination. The lawsuit also calls for declaratory relief affirming that the defendant’s current operations violate ADA requirements.

Represented by Alison Chan of Equal Access Law Group PLLC, Anderson aims to certify this case as a class action on behalf of all legally blind individuals in the United States who have been denied access to goods and services offered by Very Great Brands LLC’s website. The case underscores ongoing challenges faced by disabled individuals in accessing digital content—a critical component of modern commerce—and emphasizes the need for businesses to prioritize web accessibility.

The case is being presided over by judges at the Northern District of Illinois under Case No.: 1:26-cv-1287. As proceedings unfold, it will be pivotal in determining how businesses must adapt their digital platforms to accommodate all users equally.
