James Evans, a visually-impaired individual, has taken legal action against a corporation for failing to make its website accessible to those with visual impairments. The complaint was filed on February 27, 2026, in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against L Barn Enterprises, Inc. Evans alleges that the company’s website is not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), thus denying him and others like him equal access to its goods and services.

Evans, who relies on screen-reading software due to his blindness, contends that L Barn Enterprises’ website contains numerous accessibility barriers. These barriers include missing alternative text for images, improper heading structures, inaccessible forms, and elements that require mouse interaction—none of which are compatible with screen-reading technology. This lack of accessibility prevents visually impaired users from independently navigating or making purchases on the site. Evans attempted to purchase whiskey from the website but was unable to complete the transaction due to these issues.

The lawsuit highlights that despite existing technology and guidelines such as WCAG 2.2 designed to make websites accessible for all users, L Barn Enterprises has failed to implement these standards. Evans argues this failure constitutes discrimination under Title III of the ADA by denying visually impaired individuals full participation in online commerce—a vital aspect of modern life.

Evans seeks a permanent injunction requiring L Barn Enterprises to modify its website policies and practices so it becomes fully accessible. He also requests compensatory damages for himself and other class members who have faced similar discrimination. The case emphasizes the need for businesses to ensure their digital platforms are inclusive and comply with federal accessibility laws.

Representing Evans is attorney Michael Ohrenberger from Equal Access Law Group, PLLC. The case is presided over by judges in the Northern District of Illinois under Case No.: 1:26-cv-2259.
