The Illinois Bar Association announced on Apr. 8 a live webcast titled “More Intelligent, Less Artificial: Using AI To Make Pro Bono More Human,” scheduled for Tuesday, May 5 from noon to 1:05 p.m. The program will offer attorneys one hour of continuing legal education credit, including credit in professionalism, civility, legal ethics, or sexual harassment prevention.
The webcast aims to address how lawyers can maintain the human element in pro bono work while integrating artificial intelligence tools into their practice. This topic is increasingly important as technology continues to reshape the legal profession and raises new ethical considerations for practitioners.
Attendees will learn about maintaining technological competence and using emerging tools responsibly in line with Rule 1.1 (Competence). The session will also explore the importance of human presence in lawyering—especially within pro bono and public service contexts—and provide practical strategies for incorporating AI without diminishing client relationships. Additional topics include lawyer well-being and reflective practice related to AI integration.
The Illinois Bar Association supports Illinois lawyers by providing continuing legal education, practice management resources, and professional networking opportunities according to the official website. It serves more than 28,000 members under the guidance of an elected president, a Board of Governors, and an Assembly according to the official website. The association also promotes diversity, equity and inclusion; recognizes excellence through awards for pro bono service; utilizes the Illinois Bar Center for its operations; and has been supporting justice improvements since its founding in 1877 according to the official website.
Registration information is available online for those interested in attending this educational event.
