Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced on Mar. 13 that Adam Hurley, a 42-year-old resident of Jerseyville, Illinois, has been charged with ten counts of possessing child sexual abuse material. The charges are Class 2 felonies and each carries a potential sentence of up to seven years in prison. Hurley is currently being held at the Jersey County Jail, with his next court appearance scheduled for March 17.

The case is part of ongoing efforts by Raoul’s office to address online child exploitation in collaboration with federal and local law enforcement agencies. “My office’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force will continue to partner with state and local law enforcement agencies to find and stop individuals who exploit minors,” Raoul said. “Survivors of child exploitation and their families deserve justice for the trauma they have experienced, making it vital we continue to work to hold individuals who trade and download these heinous images and videos accountable.”

Investigators from the Attorney General’s office, along with officers from the Jerseyville Police Department, searched Hurley’s residence last Thursday after receiving evidence related to the alleged crimes. Hurley was arrested following the discovery of child sexual abuse material at his home. He is employed by the Jerseyville Public Library. Authorities are encouraging anyone with additional information about this case to contact Special Investigator Larry Rayburn at 217-843-0350.

Raoul’s office will co-prosecute the case alongside Jersey County State’s Attorney Ben Goetten’s office. The public is reminded that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

The Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, operated by Raoul’s office through a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, investigates child exploitation crimes statewide and provides training for law enforcement agencies. In 2025, reports to the ICAC Task Force increased by 45% over the previous year according to data provided by Raoul’s office.

The ICAC Task Force in Illinois is one of 61 such groups nationwide and includes more than 200 participating law enforcement agencies across various levels of government. Since its inception in 2019, it has received over 76,500 CyberTips and participated in more than 1,800 arrests; since 2006, it has been involved in over 2,500 arrests related to sexual predators. In addition to investigations and arrests, the task force rescued more than 30 children from ongoing abuse in 2025 alone and provided internet safety education to over one million parents, teachers, students as well as more than 25,000 law enforcement professionals.

According to its official website, the Illinois Attorney General advocates for vulnerable groups including workers, immigrants and seniors; handles thousands of consumer complaints annually; aims to protect consumers while promoting safer communities; extends advocacy efforts throughout Illinois; partners with law enforcement agencies for crime victim support; promotes open government; and offers services such as complaint filing for consumer fraud or civil rights issues.
