A federal jury in Chicago has convicted Jimil Parmar, a 33-year-old resident of Lawrenceville, Georgia, for sending a threatening letter to the Sant Nirankari Mission located in West Chicago. The incident took place in July 2023 when Parmar mailed a letter warning of an attack and demanding the cancellation of the Mission’s U.S. and Canada tour. The letter read: “CANCEL US CANADA TOUR IMMEDIATELY SRS ATTACK PLANNED.”

The threat coincided with the visit of Satguru Mata Sudiksha Ji Maharaj, the spiritual leader of the Mission, who was scheduled to appear in both Chicago and Atlanta during her North American tour that summer. Authorities reported that at least four other Sant Nirankari Missions across the United States received identical letters, all postmarked from the Atlanta area.

After a three-day trial in U.S. District Court in Chicago, Parmar was found guilty on Wednesday of mailing a threatening communication. He faces up to five years in federal prison. Sentencing is scheduled for March 4, 2026, at 1:15 p.m., before U.S. District Judge Matthew F. Kennelly.

The conviction was announced by Andrew S. Boutros, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Douglas S. DePodesta, Special Agent-in-Charge of the FBI’s Chicago Field Office. The FBI’s Atlanta Field Office also assisted with the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kavitha J. Babu and Ramon Villalpando are representing the government.
