In a gripping legal battle that underscores the ongoing issues of workplace harassment and discrimination, a former nurse has taken her grievances to court, alleging severe misconduct at her previous place of employment. Janet N. Adams filed a complaint on November 7, 2025, in the Northern District of Illinois against PCAC GI JV, L.L.C., doing business as Lincoln Park Endoscopy Center (LPEC), accusing them of fostering a hostile work environment and retaliatory discharge.
According to the lawsuit filed by Adams through her attorney Anthony J. Sassan, she was subjected to continuous verbal abuse and gender discrimination by Dr. Silas Herrington, an anesthesiologist employed by Harbor Anesthesia but assigned to work at LPEC. The complaint outlines that Dr. Herrington’s behavior included yelling, threatening gestures, and belittling comments directed specifically at female staff members like Adams. Despite multiple reports made by Adams to LPEC’s management about Dr. Herrington’s conduct, no corrective action was taken.
Adams served as a staff nurse from December 2022 until her termination in August 2024. She claims that after reporting Dr. Herrington’s abusive behavior—which allegedly exacerbated her PTSD stemming from military service—she faced retaliatory actions leading to her dismissal from LPEC on August 21, 2024. The lawsuit argues that this termination was unjustified and stemmed directly from her complaints about the hostile work environment.
The complaint highlights several incidents where Dr. Herrington allegedly acted inappropriately towards Adams and other female nurses. On one occasion in July 2024, Dr. Herrington reportedly misread patient vitals and reacted aggressively when corrected by Adams, causing significant distress for both the nurse and patients present at the time. Such instances were reported repeatedly to LPEC’s office manager without any remedial measures being implemented.
Adams is seeking compensatory damages for lost wages and emotional distress amounting to $50,000 or more as per statutory limits under Title VII of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act (EEOA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). She also demands punitive damages for emotional injury and requests that LPEC be ordered to cover reasonable attorney fees incurred during this litigation process.
The case is being presided over by judges in the Northern District of Illinois under Case ID: 1:25-cv-13656 with Anthony J. Sassan representing Janet N. Adams as her legal counsel.
