A former employee has filed a lawsuit against his previous employer, alleging discrimination based on disability and age. John Duncan filed the complaint in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on February 5, 2026, against Roadrunner Transportation Systems, Inc. The lawsuit claims that Duncan was subjected to discriminatory practices in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), and the Illinois Human Rights Act (IHRA).

According to the court documents, John Duncan began working as a Voice Engineer for Roadrunner Transportation Systems on May 13, 2024. He performed his duties satisfactorily without any negative feedback until he was hospitalized due to medical complications in December 2024. During his hospitalization, Duncan’s partner informed his employer about his condition. Upon returning to work on December 16, 2024, Duncan provided a doctor’s note and requested future accommodations for ongoing treatment related to his kidney condition.

The complaint details how Duncan’s work environment changed drastically after he disclosed his medical needs. His supervisor, Zia Ahmed, reportedly reduced communication with him and subjected his work to increased scrutiny. On January 9, 2025, Duncan was terminated from his position under claims of poor performance—claims which he asserts were false and pretextual.

Duncan argues that Roadrunner Transportation Systems discriminated against him due to his disability by failing to provide reasonable accommodations and retaliating against him for requesting such accommodations. Furthermore, he alleges age discrimination as he was replaced by a substantially younger employee following his termination.

In seeking judgment from the court, Duncan requests damages exceeding $100,000. This includes back pay, front pay, punitive damages, compensatory damages for emotional distress and loss of enjoyment of life, as well as attorneys’ fees and costs. He also seeks declarations from the court that Roadrunner violated ADA, ADEA, and IHRA statutes.

The case is represented by attorneys Taxiarchis Hatzidimitriadis and Ricardo Alvarez from Consumer Law Partners LLC. The case ID is 1:26-cv-1320.
