Attorney General Kwame Raoul has announced charges against a Chicago man, Henry E. Solomon Jr., who worked as a tow truck driver for the city’s Department of Streets and Sanitation. Solomon is accused of being involved in the theft of multiple vehicles while performing his official duties.

The Attorney General’s office has charged Solomon, 48, with several felony counts: one count of Class 1 felony aggravated possession of a stolen or converted motor vehicle, three counts of Class 2 felony vehicle theft conspiracy, four counts of Class 3 felony official misconduct, two counts of Class 3 felony conspiracy to commit theft, and one count of Class 4 felony conspiracy to commit theft. The possible sentences range from three to fifteen years in prison for each charge if convicted. Solomon pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to appear in court again on March 12.

“It is especially egregious when an individual charged with working on behalf of the public breaks the law for their own financial gain,” Raoul said. “I will continue to partner with local law enforcement to hold accountable those who criminally betray the public’s trust.”

According to Raoul’s office, Solomon allegedly provided information about vehicle locations and registration details to individuals who later stole those vehicles. In at least one case, he reportedly accepted payment for this information.

The investigation was conducted by the Chicago Police Department and the Illinois Attorney General’s Office. Assistant Attorney General Samantha Cain is prosecuting the case through Raoul’s Special Prosecutions Bureau.

The Attorney General reminded the public that Solomon is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

The Illinois Attorney General regularly collaborates with law enforcement agencies across Illinois to support crime victims and promote open government. The office also provides legal representation and advocates for vulnerable groups such as workers, immigrants, and seniors statewide. It operates main offices in Chicago, Springfield, and Carbondale while handling thousands of consumer complaints annually and offering services related to consumer fraud and civil rights through its official website.
