Lakeisha Triplett has filed a lawsuit against her former employer, Accent Care, Inc., alleging violations of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). The complaint was submitted on November 26, 2025, in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Triplett accuses Accent Care of interfering with her FMLA rights and retaliating against her for utilizing those rights.

The narrative begins with Lakeisha Triplett’s employment at Accent Care, Inc., which commenced on December 28, 2012. She served diligently until her abrupt termination on August 2, 2025. During her tenure, she consistently met and exceeded performance standards and received satisfactory feedback from her employer. However, a tragic turn of events unfolded on June 3, 2025, when Triplett and her children were involved in a severe car accident while she was conducting business for Accent Care. This accident resulted in significant injuries to both herself and her children.

Triplett promptly requested FMLA leave to recover from the accident and care for her children who required multiple surgeries. Initially approved for only three weeks of leave despite needing at least eight weeks, she sought an extension through proper channels but faced bureaucratic hurdles. Despite continuous efforts to communicate with Accent Care and the insurance company handling FMLA requests, she encountered delays and miscommunications that left her in limbo.

The complaint details how Triplett attempted to return to work as instructed by Accent Care but faced contradictory information regarding her employment status. Her supervisor claimed she was not active yet; however, the FMLA carrier confirmed otherwise. Despite these efforts to clarify her situation and resume work duties, Triplett received no response from Accent Care for over two weeks. Eventually, she was informed of her termination under the pretext of “voluntarily leaving,” a claim she vehemently disputes given her active attempts to return.

Triplett’s lawsuit alleges that Accent Care unlawfully interfered with her FMLA rights by failing to notify her of eligibility status or designate requested leave as FMLA-protected. Furthermore, it claims retaliation against Triplett for exercising these rights by terminating her employment unjustly. As a result of these alleged violations, Triplett asserts suffering loss of employment benefits along with mental anguish.

In seeking justice through this legal action against Accent Care Inc., Lakeisha Triplett requests several forms of relief including back pay with interest; compensation for lost benefits; liquidated damages; reasonable attorney fees; pre-judgment interest if applicable; front pay among other remedies deemed just by court judgment.

Representing Lakeisha Triplett are attorneys Chad W. Eisenback and Chasidy K. Clark from Sulaiman Law Group Ltd., based in Lombard Illinois under Case ID: 1:25-cv-14478.
